Photostat of a letter sent from Washington (D.C.) to "dear sister", dated Oct. 20, 1862, and the typescript. Letter describes his life as a soldier, winter quarters, conditions near battlefields, and stories about blacks. Mentions Martha Hazerd at home, Dwight James, the sister's sweetheart, and a man named Tower in the Maryland (Infantry?), 7th Regiment.
